Argos’ Advertisement Was Banned

The television advertisement says that the Argos will send “at the appropriate time slot for you.” But in some cases, customers were given a choice of six hours or eight hours of the morning slot afternoon slot. Argos denied the ad was misleading because the ad had been referring customers to a website that explains the delivery options.

Catalog retailer said it believed that the reader will refer to the website or their catalog or check to the store, where full details are also available. Argos said the claim was not misleading because customers are given a time slot allocation. Mentioned also that the Argos contact customers who buy big items a day earlier to give them a two-hour window in which time slots in the order they will be sent.

But the ASA said the ads now, which shows two penguins make deliveries to sea lions, can not be aired again because it states that customers have a wide level of choice about when the goods will be delivered. “Because we understand that it is not the case, we conclude that the ad was misleading,” said the ASA. Web retailers usually offer free postage for small and medium size goods for delivery at specific times, but most – like Argos – also has a wide selection of courier, who came along with final bill.

At Amazon, there are a series of options that include everything from the normal postal system until the night express or guaranteed delivery. However, all is not cheap. One-day express shipping cost 8.99 pounds, 14.99 pounds, while shipments night. Tesco Direct, which operates a catalog and website similar to the Argos, had a two-hour delivery slots on several items with the price of 6.85 pounds. But that is only available on a very limited number of products. The store also offers a choice of days, but the cost of 5 pounds means that the goods may be delivered at any time within 12 hours starting at seven in the morning until seven at night.

Theme and Creativity on Blogs

Blog Themes – How to Add Creativity to Your Blog

Themes are a sort of subliminal background to a blog. They provide a reading environment, and sometimes interesting, or not so interesting, features. The trouble with themes is choosing something which is right for your blog and provides a good platform for your SEO, article range and includes operational functions. Whether your blog is about car insurance or goldfish, the motto here is to stick to the game plan, and integrate the theme with the whole blog efficiently.

Simpler, home made content, or what, for your blog?

Templates have exactly one thing going for them- They’re functional. They provide a consistent background and built in features. Fine, but in terms of market image, many templates leave a lot to be desired. If you’ve seen some of the themes used by graphic artists, you’ll know what’s possible. Even basic web pages can have quite incredible backgrounds.

These backgrounds are simply slotted on as images and overwritten. They’re interesting, effective, and can also help in terms of the color scheme. Some color schemes are a bit too “corporate”. Others can best be described as staggeringly unambitious, very ho-hum non-efforts.

To give some idea of the issues, a basic scan of a good image, as a text background, can blow any monotone mess out of the water. Many themes include paper, solid color, wood grain and other features which look nice enough at first but become repetitive, un-variegated, and let’s face it, dull.

The business theme is fine for business. It says “We’re here to sell.” It has no particular claims to artistic or any other sort of merit, and is simply functional. For blogs, however, that’s often well short of what’s needed, particularly in very articulate blogs. Blogs are individualized by nature, and a “Me too” theme like a business theme can be exactly what people need to see to go straight back to their search and keep looking.

Theme madness?

Themes can be overstated, oversold and overcrowded with content. They can also be underdone to the point at which the reader decides the blog is uninteresting or that the blogger’s not trying too hard. (The difference between minimalism and bone lazy is also debatable, but if you’ve seen one of those “wastelands with text” you’d probably agree that visually those themes aren’t too encouraging.)

The trouble with conventional wisdom about themes is that everything is supposed to be solved with a theme. Not likely. Themes used properly are an asset, but as a sort of cure-all for blog content issues and antiquated features, they leave a lot to be desired. The problem is that themes, when standardized, tend to become one of the crowd. That’s lousy marketing, and having a few mindless graphic patterns swirling around doesn’t help a lot, either.

Getting out of the theme dilemma

There’s another person affected by themes- You, the blogger. “Great, terrific, exciting, whatever”, you have to look at these things. The line of least resistance, for once, is the line of greatest reward. Find something which really appeals to you strongly. Something you can look at forever. It can be a picture of your favorite film star, a series of cultural icons, just make sure you can look at it and love it.

How Kids Can Make Money

More and more kids and parents are asking how kids can make money. With the economy in trouble many parents are cutting back on the money they spend on extras for their kids. For the ambitious and determined child, there are ways they can work for what they want. As a child, under 16 years old, I babysat and gave piano lessons to pay for makeup, books, jewelry and other things I wanted. My younger brother had a paper route and mowed lawns to earn the money for a new bike.

Today there are many different ways to make money for the child who is willing to work. Besides the obvious babysitting, paper route and lawn mowing, there are a lot of ways a determined kid can make money. Any child with ambition, honesty, dependability and the ability to see a job through to the end will soon find himself or herself in demand.

With a little thought and knowledge of your neighborhood you can come up with some of your own ideas for how kids can make money. Here are just a few suggestions for jobs for kids:

1. Parents’ Helper – Too young to really babysit? How about approaching a busy mother with several young children about keeping the children entertained while she’s busy doing other things?
2. House cleaning – Many people are just too busy to keep their house as clean as they would like, but cannot really afford a professional housekeeping service. A child who can vacuum, dust, and mop a floor and clean the toilets could earn some very good money.
3. Lemonade Stand – Selling lemonade, cold sodas in the summer and hot cocoa and cider in the winter can be one way to make money. However, be aware that some cities have regulations about such enterprises; check first.
4. Car Washing – Kids ask your parents to teach you how to wash a car, then go around your neighborhood and offer to wash your busy neighbors’ vehicles. This is something that a couple of children can do together as a way to earn money.
5. Dog Walking – If you live in an apartment building and have neighbors who own dogs, offer to walk their dogs for a fee. For many people this will be a real blessing that they will happily pay for. Don’t forget to take “poo bags” and clean up after the dog.
6. Poo Patrol – If you live in a neighborhood where people have fenced yards where their dogs are allowed to roam and do their business, offer to clean up the “poo”. Take a bucket, lined with a bag and a garden trowel. Walk the yard thoroughly, picking up every bit of poo.
7. Vacation Helper – Make up a flyer listing all the different types of services you could provide as a “vacation helper”. Then pass this flyer out to your neighbors so that when they go away they know who to call to water their garden, walk the dog, bring in the mail, and just otherwise take care of their house.
8. Snow Shoveling – Either with a shovel or a snow blower a kid who lives in snow-prone areas can make some good money clearing driveways and sidewalks.
9. Garden Helper – In the spring, offer to help your neighbors who plant gardens by raking, working the soil, planting, pulling weeds, mulching, watering etc.
10. Yard Sale – Go through your things and decide if you have stuff that you no longer use or want that could be sold.
11. Yard Sale Helper – Offer to help arrange, set up and monitor your neighbor’s yard and garage sales.
12. Garage Organizer – Offer to help clean up and arrange garages. Not only will your neighbors be thrilled with their neat garages, but you’ll earn a bit of money. Additionally, there are almost always things that get thrown away that you might be able to take home and sell in your own garage sale.

Parents make sure that your kids follow a few simple safety guidelines:

1. Always let you know where they are
2. Never go door to door alone (you must be willing to go with them if there’s not a sibling or friend to go with them)
3. Provide a card with your name and phone number for them to hand out to prospective clients.
4. Make sure they understand about reliability and responsibility and are committed to finishing the work they agree to do. Also advise them about displaying a good attitude. Remind them that their clients are doing them a favor by hiring them, thus they should have an attitude that says “I’m happy to be here, doing this work”.
5. Make sure they understand that these jobs can only be done after their schoolwork and chores are done.
6. Advise them to keep the prices affordable.
7. Make sure they know they can ask you for advice anytime.

These are just a few suggestions for how kids can make money. Look over your neighborhood. Think about the types of things that people have to do just to maintain their house that take up time and could easily be done by someone else. Those are the types of things that many people will gladly pay your child to do.

Entrepreneurship 101 – Business Seminars

Starting that entrepreneur career you’ve always wanted in Ireland can prove to be a daunting task, so it would only be prudent to prepare and know the battlefield you’ll be stepping into. One way to be properly prepared is to attend business seminars in Ireland. “Knowing is half the battle,” says one cliché, and for a good reason. But if you would be attending some seminars, you might as well make sure they can tell you some valuable information about the following:

Specific business area information guide. You may be starting a business on your own neighborhood, but it’s still better to get a professional guide of the business area. One very important piece of data you can get from business area information guides is the demographics of potential consumer pools.

Market research, suitability, and strategy. Theory and practice are sometimes completely different worlds. Though you may have a BA in business administration or entrepreneurship, it would be best to be knowledgeable on how things go in the real world where you’ll actually be making or losing money. And where better to learn from than from people who know and are conducting seminars about them?

Marketing tactics and tips. Good marketing plans make or break a business. Know contemporary marketing tactics, strategies, and patterns. You can get all of these with the proper seminars.

Paperwork and formalities. Even in internet businesses, there will be a certain amount of paperwork involved. Don’t get lost in it and familiarize yourself beforehand. There are seminars that can give you a heads up about how all the paperwork in a business would go, and how to deal with them.

Information technology and communication. Especially with businesses on the Web, this aspect would greatly benefit you.

Finance-capital, income, and expenditures. Successful entrepreneurs move in the world of likelihood, but their money moves around the world of reality. Knowing how to delineate statistical probability and reality can save you a lot of money. Seminars and good speakers can teach you all about finance in the real world.

Business plans. Sure you have your own ideas, and that’s great, but a little professional opinion wouldn’t hurt-especially if you learn from it.

If you’re going for online business seminars in Ireland, you can definitely find some with just one Google search. But for your own sake, double check the credentials of the site sponsoring or holding the seminar, and the seminar’s contents as well.
