Fear, Desire, and Self-Motivation
When it comes to motivating yourself one thing that is apparent no matter what your goals are is that anyone who has ever been given the title of "high achiever" is also a very self motivated person. You never hear about olympic athletes being forced to practice or multi-millionaires who just don't feel like doing their work. When it comes down to it they have mastered the art of self motivation and it's payed off in a big way. So what do these people know that you don't?
What high achievers have managed to do is shift their motivation from fear (what most people use), to desire. Although this seems very simple very few people ever make that shift and it costs them big time.
Fear and desire are the only two motivators in life. If you dig deep enough you'll realize that everything, from motivational speeches to commercials and even movies all work on one of those two levels. Motivational speeches or pep talks make you desire something better for or from yourself. Commercials either make you do something by fearing an outcome (if you don't wear your seatbelt you're more likely to die in a car crash) or by desiring it (if you wear this deodorant women will be all over you). And movies, especially horror movies, give you an adrenaline rush by showing you things you fear might happen.
The trick to being successful and self motivated is to move from fearing what you don't want, to desiring what you do want. Most people think that there isn't a difference, they'll say "what does it matter if I don't want to be fat or I want to be skinny, isn't it the same thing" and the answer is no it's not. Your brain works with images. If I tell you not to think of a corvette you have to first think of one to not think of it. In the previous example if you're thinking about not being fat what are you seeing in your minds eye? You have to see yourself as fat before you can think of not being that way. On the flip side if you are thinking of being skinny you'll see yourself as skinny, begin believing it in your mind, and begin acting from that belief.
Below are some action points you can start applying to see a difference right away, but as with any self-improvement it takes some work. Trust me when I say it will be very worth it though, because in a short time you'll see yourself becoming a more positive and happy person. You'll stop being afraid of what you don't want and start looking forward to the things you keep thinking and fantasizing about. From that point on as long as you remember to be consistent regarding these action points you'll become one of those self motivated people. And remember, it's not that people are self motivated because they are successful, they are successful because they are self motivated!
A few action points:
-Think about and visualize what you want as if it's already happen every day, this will spark your desire and make sure that your fire and passion for your dream never goes out.
-Start to pay attention to your thoughts and turn each fearful "what if" into a positive to keep you out of the fear motivation that will move you right towards what you fear. i.e. if you're driving down a dark side road at night instead of thinking "man what if my tire blew out right now" kill that thought and replace it with "what if when I get home my wife is waiting for me with a big smile on her face and I get to have an awesome dinner with the whole family!?". One is obviously the better thought.
-Begin taking responsibility for your day and life as a whole, remember that you created your current situation just like you're going to create your dream life. Write down a To Do of Critical Tasks list the night before and take responsibility for getting those done starting with the task that will further your most important goal.
-Sometimes fear is inevitable, right before a big change it's normal to feel a little bit of fear, the key is to acknowledge that fear as normal and good, and then push through that boundary. Feeling fear or discomfort (those butterflies in your stomach we all love so much) is a very good thing in cases like this because it's letting you know you're on the edge of a breakthrough, it's your old belief system's last ditch effort to keep you from moving forward.
-Last but not least, enjoy it! You'll realize that thinking about what you want, basically fantasizing about your dream life, is a lot more fun that dreading something that hasn't happen yet. So enjoy constantly thinking about what you want knowing with absolute certainty that everything you dwell on you bring about.

Being motivated can help a person to succeed in many different areas of their life such as their work, their home life, their relationships with others and it can even help a person to increase their wellbeing. In other words motivation can do a lot of positive things for an individual which can really benefit them and their lives. One of the problems however that the majority of people have with being motivated is that becoming motivated can be very hard. It can be made even more difficult if a person is having a rough time in their life and feels as though nothing is going right for them. Anyone who wants to become self motivated should take note of the following steps to achieve this.
Step one – have self belief. When you believe in yourself you will find that it is much easier to become motivated. Often self belief can feel strange to anyone not used to thinking positively about anything, let alone themselves. To combat this start small and make a list of positive things about yourself. For example if you are a good listener put this on your list. As you think of more things keep adding them to your list and you will soon see the positive things about yourself and develop self belief over time.
Step two – decide what you would like to be motivated about. Having clear and well defined goals will help to increase motivation, after all it is very hard to motivated about nothing. So think what you would like to be motivated about. So would you like to achieve a new qualification or maybe improve a relationship within your family.
Step three – decide how you will start on your path to motivation. This is actually a whole lot easier than it sounds. Say you would like to gain a qualification think about what you would need to do to achieve this. Firstly, you would need to decide on the qualification then find out where you can gain this.
Step four – start on your road to self motivation by taking the first steps towards your goal. As you do this your motivation will grow and it will start to become second nature to you. In no time at all you will find that you are motivated and can easily motivate yourself to achieve whatever you wish.
Step five – start living your life as a person who finds it easy to become motivated. When this happens you will find that you have a new sense of freedom and start to think more positively.
Some people use self help books in addition to these steps to help them to be more motivated and this can also be useful. So if you are looking to enhance your self motivation and start getting things done in your life, follow the steps mentioned above. In no time you will find that you have a more positive outlook on life and you are achieving more than you ever thought possible.
Understanding Self Motivation
Improving your self motivation will catapult you into a life of happiness, accomplishment and wealth. Too many people today are suffering the consequences of a lack of motivation culminating in problems such as stress, unhappiness, worry, fear and so on.
Why should this be so?
Why do we need self motivation anyway?
The answer is quite straight forward.....
We are the creators of our own world, period.
Too many people blame circumstance, condition or somebody else for their failures or lack of success. In other words something external to themselves. If they only knew that you have to fail before you succeed, that it is a requirement to fail, sometimes many times before you succeed. It is these failures once learned, but not dwelt upon, that will ultimately help you succeed and accomplish anything in life. All great people have been through this process.
Many, today think other people or institutions or even government owe them a living, and if they don't receive what they believe they are entitled to then they react negatively. This belief system is bourne out of a tribal mentality from years gone by where people had to stick together and think in a certain way to survive. There was no room for someone to think differently from the crowd. It was dangerous for everyone else. This thinking is now dated.These belief systems are dated.
Ok, so if we are not going to blame external events and conditions,
How do we motivate ourselves?
The first and therefore the most important step is to dream and find out what motivates you?
What would you like to achieve or what makes you happy?
What are you passionate about?
Without these goals and dreams you will never be able to motivate yourself.
Many people feel powerless and therefore inadequate because of their present circumstances. The fear of not having a job, the fear of not having any money and so on keeps people enslaved.
It is not the circumstances that enslave them it is the way they think about the circumstances.
Once people realise that they are the creators of their own worlds then the whole planet will be on purpose and living a truly joyful existence. Of course because people let worry and fear take hold they never have a chance to motivate themselves, they never move forward and they become the procrastinators, the excellent planners (because they have done it so many times) but not the doers!
On the surface some might say it is a lack of courage, but the real reason is a lack of awareness.
If people were more aware of their mental processes which are going on then they would all be motivated and on course to realise their dreams and aspirations. This awareness is the key which will unlock the door not just to self motivation but to a world of infinite possibilities and happiness.
Everyone has a layout or blueprint for the way they think about such things as self motivation, anger, worry, sex, achievement, happiness and so on. These blueprints are constantly running on auto pilot (the subconscious mind) and produce specific outcomes eg. if you are having problems in relationships your attraction blueprint needs looked at, having problems making money then the way you recognise (or don't) a good deal may need to be looked at.
These blueprints are a series of steps arranged in a certain order. The important point is they are largely running out of your awareness. They are triggered by an initial internal or external event. These steps may be empowering steps that get you what you want or disempowering which don't get you what you want. Quite often they are internal representations of negative situations ie what you perceive as negative because of your beliefs (which were forced on you when you were a child)
For Example: You are motivated by a particular dream that you have always had to be a successful business owner. No sooner have you thought about it than you start to think of negative scenarios such as lack of finance, lack of confidence in your own ability and so on. Your blueprint, that is the steps you go through in your own head to motivate yourself are disempowering.
A better scenario would be:
1. motivated to be a small business owner;
2. start to think of a product or service you would like to sell;
3. do some homework about starting a business by researching on the internet to give you some valuable knowledge and confidence;
4. visualise and imagine being a successful business owner, how would that make you feel?
5. ask around to see if there is a need for the product or service;
6. make an appointment with a bank to find out more information about financing your dream;
7. research the area again to see if your business is viable.
The above list is not supposed to be exhaustive, just illustrative of a more resourceful blueprint. The only way you can improve the different blueprints going on in your head is to be more aware that they exist. This involves watching your thoughts in every moment daily and monitoring your feelings. If you don't feel positive and happy it's because one of your blueprint programs is disempowering. Meditation is an excellent way to become more aware.
It all starts with an exciting long term goal or dream which will give you a buzz or passion for life. Once you have got this goal firmly fixed in your mind you will have the necessary self motivation to break it down into smaller steps - not too small though or you might lose some of that passion and eagerness to achieve it. A good motivation blueprint can be useful for anything. Remember if the representation of the finished task does not produce strong self motivation to achieve it you are probably focusing on the consequences of not accomplishing it.
One of the biggest break throughs I ever made in my life with regard to self motivation, success, achievement and wealth was to realise that I had to change me if I wanted better results. I had to change any negative programs (and there were many) to more resourceful ones. The old adage, 'to achieve success you first have to be someone' is very true.
