3 Self Motivation Techniques

Self motivation, who has not needed some good techniques to motivate themselves at one point or another in their life. It could have been getting up out of your bed early in the morning to go to school or work, or go for that daily run even though it’s a little cold outside. If you want to be able to effectively use your mind power to motivate yourself you have to have patience.

There are many different motivation techniques and of course not all work for everyone, however knowing them is just the first step so that you may then pick the ones that you would like to try and see if they work for you.

The first thing is you must be truly interested in the task you want to achieve. If you don’t care about something it will feel like it’s impossible to feel motivated about it. A good thing to do would be to connect it to your ultimate goal in the end. If you don’t want to do an assignment just realize that the sooner you get it over with, is the sooner you can put it in your list of things completed and you don’t have to worry about it anymore.

Another good technique would be to strengthen your desire. If it’s about losing weight and you don’t want to work out think about that dream body you can achieve if you just put in 20 minutes per day of exercise. Sometimes the biggest problem can be lack of energy and you need to do something that will give you an energy boost. Drink some coffee, the caffeine will give you the energy boost you need. Alternatively, you can go outside sometimes just feeling the sunshine and taking in the fresh air can be energizing.

However the easiest self motivation technique of all would be to have better sleep. If you can manage to get at least 5 hours of sleep a day, the quality of it will be more important than the quantity to help rejuvenate your body.

Helping Your Children Learn to Self Motivate

As you grow older, you might look back upon your life with a sense of regret for things you did not do or things you did not know. While you can understand that it was all a part of the learning process, you still want to pass along some of your mistakes to your children in order to help them make the most of their lives. One of the best ways you can help your child develop and grow is to teach them how to motivate themselves - without your input. Not only will this benefit you as a parent, but your children will be able to apply these lessons to the rest of their life.

Why Motivation Should Start Young

What most parents do when they are raising their children is to create boundaries in which they can safely learn to grow and make decisions. While this is the right thing to do when a child is very young, as they grow older, these boundaries can cause them to be limited in their experience of the world - and of making mistakes. Lessons learned from these mistakes are invaluable, but without being given the opportunity to fail, your child will not learn to succeed.

Motivating themselves should start when children are still given strict boundaries. By learning the reasons behind doing things, they can begin to see why it's important to complete certain tasks. This will instill in them a strong sense of self worth because they know they are making a difference, but it will also allow the child to learn responsibility for handling chores and other activities.

The more the child is put into these sorts of situations, the more they will be able to begin these tasks on their own. By knowing that their actions will have value for others as well as for themselves, they will be motivated to complete the things they need to do.

Teaching Motivation

Children are already learning more than you can possibly imagine. Each new experience is something that is new and wondrous, but without a context, the importance may also be easily lost. There are several ways you can begin to teach motivation without seeming like you're condemning the child's age:

- Be interactive with your children - Explain to them why you do things and why they are asked to do things. Listen to their concerns and address their concerns as well.

- Encourage your children to ask questions - This fosters self-confidence and importance in their lives.

- Reward children for self motivating - Whether they've done an extra chore without your asking or they've simply begun to reduce their dependence on you, make sure to reward this to let them know they're on the right track.

Children who are self motivated will grow up to be strong students and people. Instead of constantly looking for someone else to do the job for them, they will be looking for ways to make things happen in their own lives. Wouldn't this make them and you proud?

How to Find Your Self Motivation Triggers – One Size Does Not Fit All!

We get motivation advice all the time. Some like to give it for free, just because they like to show as if they know more than you do. But quite often, they do this to try and give you a sense of inferiority - as if they're superior to you. There are exceptions where some people do have a genuine interest to help folks, but these are few. Some people like to sell motivational stuff to make money and earn fame. While I do not favor, nor condone anyone or any method in particular, I will always say one thing - don't entirely depend on any one person or method to motivate you, and that also includes myself! Having said that, let us explore this a little deeper.

What is self motivation? In my opinion, self motivation is the act or process of emotionally persuading, manipulating, inducing, or incentivizing oneself to work towards a desired goal, by giving logical purpose and direction to your behavior, that continues to push you towards that goal, consciously, or sub-consciously.

Having said that, there are several ways that can make you and keep you motivated, until you reach your desired goal. Some of these are - using self hypnosis, reading motivational books, listening to motivational tapes, going to seminars, keeping in touch with the folks who have reached goals that you are striving to reach, putting pictures of the material goals at places where you see them everyday, etc. In fact, I know someone who gets a lot of motivation from anger - he frames receipts of payments he has made towards those who have duped him and keeps them on the wall facing him. It motivates him to reach income levels that surpass them and kind of "beat them", so to say!

Unfortunately, not all motivational methods actually motivate you, and most of them do not keep you in a "motivated state of mind", except a select few. Your job is to find these "select few methods / people" and then follow them religiously. How do you do this? The best way is to measure the results you achieve every time you use one of them. Stick to the ones that work and discard the ones that don't! Simple isn't it? It really is, if you do it right. The only requirement is that you take sufficient action in following them. Don't stop in the middle on the pretext that it doesn't work. Ask yourself - have you dedicated enough time and effort for it to work?

Another idea is to get someone involved in your act, like your spouse or a close friend. Tell them that this is what you intend to do and see how they can help you. While a helping hand certainly helps, more important is the commitment that you have indirectly made to ensure that it works. You shouldn't be afraid of being made fun of for failing; if the person you have involved is close enough to you.

Some more things you should keep in mind:

1. Maintain a positive attitude. Happiness should be at the top of your priority list, so do maintain a positive attitude. This will also affect the people and environment around you.

2. Take breaks regularly. Have you ever had an experience where, when you try to sort out something for hours and hours without any luck, the same thing is sorted out in minutes the next morning? When you're tired and your body and mind needs a break, your focus and analysis capacity is limited. Take a break when required. They didn't write "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" for nothing!

3. Don't take your troubles to bed and work. We all have problems and thinking about them will do no good. Concentrate on the solution, not on the problem. Don't think about it when you're working or going to bed. Neither will your income stand benefited, nor will your spouse!

4. Physical exercise. I won't stress this, you've probably had enough advice and I don't want to add more, just one little line: "Try it and measure the result - if it doesn't work, stop it". I'm confident you won't stop it! It has been scientifically proved that physical and mental health go hand in hand.

3 Steps to Develop your Self Motivation Skills

The first thing you need to do in order to gain some self motivation skills is take action. No more whining or complaining, take life into your own hands .If you are actually motivated to do something chances are it will get done. We are all guilty for at least once in our lives claiming that we were going to do something tomorrow, but that's not taking action that's putting things off.

The always seem to be things that we don't really want to do such as dieting. However you can learn self motivation skills to help you achieve your goals faster. The first step involves preparing a list of things that you need to do the next day before you go to bed emphasizing on the things that absolutely must be done.

The next step is when you get up in the morning, the first thing you do is take a look at your list and make a mental note of the things that must be taken care of. The next thing that you must do is think back into the past and try to remember the things that used to motivate you. Chances are if they motivated you before they might motivate you now. It's a good idea to use these motivators to help you complete your task.

The next thing is to treat yourself after each completed task. Treating yourself can be something as simple as giving yourself a little break or indulging in one of your favorite snacks. You must also keep yourself focused on the task at hand and not let yourself get distracted. Simple things like frequently being on the phone or watching television will slowly but surely steer you away from the task at hand. Finally when you are done, always celebrate the completion of your tasks.
